About me

Me:Learning is the initiative of Eelco Braad.

Eelco Braad is a researcher-in-practice: his research is always embedded within the real world of education, design, or development. His expertise in technology and games are combined with extensive experience in higher education.

As a teacher, coach, and graduation supervisor but also as a coordinator, instructional developer, and project lead, he has been involved in both the design and execution of bachelor and master programs from various different perspectives. At the moment, he is focused on bringing together this knowledge into his PhD-thesis about how digital games can be designed to improve metacognitive knowledge and skills in learners.

Metacognition and game-based learning

Currently, my research effort is focused on how metacognition can be encouraged through game-based learning. Here are some of my publications.

Designing games for learning

I wrote about how games can be created and how to design games to enhance learning.

Exploring serious games

Over the past few years, we tried out many different things, often through exploratory projects with some of our game design students. Here are a few papers discussing such ideas.

I'm a learner too: I'm currently learning how other people learn and how we can make that more effective, more efficient, and more enjoyable. About »
